Details: Conservators are responsible for the physical well-being of the objects in a museum collection. They apply scientific and technical analysis to discover an artist’s methods and examine and treat works of art in order to preserve them, restore them, keep them clean and/or prepare them for loan or exhibition. This workshop begins with a hands-on examination, documentation, and treatment of a material—an experience that emphasizes critical thinking and process skills. You’ll also locate a wide range of art materials in VMFA galleries; investigate VMFA conservation processes through the eyes of 40 teens; and identify, examine, and discuss a variety of textiles used in the arts.
Cost: $30 (VMFA members $27)
