Join us this Inauguration weekend as we honor our nation’s first president with a scavenger hunt, exhibits, and more special activities. Special extended hours.
Details: Special activities will take place throughout each day.
George Washington did not seek to become the first president of the United States, so why did he accept this daunting challenge? In the days surrounding inauguration, Mount Vernon’s younger guests, ages 8 and above, will have the unique opportunity to answer this important question and learn more about Washington’s presidency by listening for clues and solving puzzles in a variety of locations across the estate, including the Ford Orientation Center, the Mansion, and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center.
In the Orientation Center, see a life-sized figure of George Washington taking the oath of office. Also view a selection of commemorative buttons from Washington’s inauguration. Craftsmen made these buttons with patriotic designs and Washington’s initials, and they sold them at the inauguration in New York City.
We will have extended hours this weekend from 8AM to 5PM.
Cost: Included in General Admission
