What famous wagon featured the phrase: “Oregon Or The Grave”?

oregontrailMay 1, 1839 — Eighteen men set out to make their way to Oregon today. Using the route known as the Oregon Trail, their goal was to colonize the northwestern state on behalf of the United States.

Known as the Peoria Party, they carried a flag emblazoned with the phrase: “Oregon Or The Grave.”

Although half of the members gave up on the trek in Colorado, the remaining nine made it to their destination.
